"The LCDM Milky Way: On substructure and neutralino annihilation"


We compare observations of the internal structure and kinematics of the known Milky Way satellites with high resolution simulations of the formation of its dark halo in a LCDM universe. In contrast to earlier work we find excellent agreement. If there is a substructure "problem" it consists in understanding why halo substructures have been so inefficient in making stars. In the second part we use the same simulations to predict the gamma-ray flux from possible Dark Matter annihilation. We measure the effect of gravitationally bound substructure as well as unbound density fluctuations directly from the simulation. We find that the overall enhancement with respect to the smooth halo is smaller than a factor of 3.5.
