The goal of this workshop is to discuss the current status of theoretical predictions and observational tests of Cold Dark Matter models on sub-galactic scales. The target size is about 40 participants. The format will combine relatively short (25-30 min) talks with breaks for informal discussion. The list of topics to be discussed includes
|
Structural propeties of dark matter halos Dynamics of luminous and dark matter in galactic halos Galaxy formation in CDM scenarios Dynamics of bars in CDM halos |
Observational constraints from galactic rotation curves Observational signatures of dark matter Constraints from strong and weak lensing Direct DM detection experiments |
LIST OF PARTICIPANTS (tentative)
If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please send an email with abstract of your talk to Andrey Kravtsov. We will try to accomodate all requests, although given the small size and short duration of the workshop, the time for a presentation is not guaranteed.

If you are staying at the Ramada Inn, a hotel shuttle is scheduled to transport participants to and from Enrico Fermi Institute (EFI) building. The shuttle boarding in the morning will be at 8:00-8:10am at the hotel entrance (check with the desk). Ramada shuttle will also be available to pick guests at the EFI in the evening after workshop activities (boarding times will be announced).
It is also possible to take CTA city bus from near Ramada Inn (check with hotel clerk for directions to the bus stop) to the EFI (located on the corner of Ellis Ave. and 57th street). See this site for routes and schedules (you can take route 171 or 172).
If you decide to walk from Ramada Inn to campus, allow yourself 25-30min.
If you are staying at Wooded Isle Suites, the EFI building is about 10-15 minute walk away. As you exit the Suites, turn left toward 57 street (the first street on the left). Turn left on 57st, go through the train underpass and then follow (west) on 57st until intersection with Ellis Ave. The EFI is a gray 4 story building to the right of the 57st - Ellis Ave. intersection.
The entrance to the EFI building is on Ellis Ave. The talks will take place in room RI 480, on the 4th floor of the building. We will post signs directing from the entrance to RI 480.
Box lunches will be provided for all workshop participants during the lunch break. We hope to use lunch break time for informal discussion of morning talks.
On Wednesday, we invite you for the annual CfCP BBQ party outside the EFI building immediately after the talks.
On Thursday, we are organizing workshop dinner at the Greek Islands restaurant in Chicago's Greek town on the westside of downtown. The dinner is free and all participants are invited. We will provide buses for transportation from University. After dinner the buses will take people back to Ramada Inn and Wooded Isle.
Please let me know if you will not be able to make it to this dinner or if you have special food requirements (if you have not already done so).
On Friday night we don't have any scheduled activities, although a group of people will be likely getting together for dinner and some music in one of the Chicago jazz/blues clubs.
For additional restaurants see this listing. You will also receive a map with listing of Hyde Park restaurants in your workshop packet.
We will have both LCD and overhead projectors ready for talks. For the LCD projector we will have a hub so you can test your laptop before the session and leave it hooked up to the LCD for quick changeup between presentations.
We will have 1 or 2 laptops in RI480 for checking email. If you bring your laptop and have a wireless card, we may be able to setup wireless access for you in RI480 (please let us know if you would like to have this option).
Although there will be no proceedings for the workshop, we plan to provide the talk slides and (possibly) audio recording online. Therefore, we would like to ask you to provide us with the electronic files of your talk (PDF, PowerPoint, StarOffice, etc.) or transparencies (which will be scanned and returned to you). Please let us know if you have any objections to this.

We reserved a block of 30 single and 10 double rooms at the Lake Shore Ramada Inn hotel, and a small number of rooms (9) in the Wooded Isle Suites. Both of these hotels are located in the Hyde Park neighborhood within walking distance from campus. Shuttles to and from the University are available to the Ramada Inn (located about 2 miles from campus). The Wooded Isle is located a 10 minute walk from campus. An alternative somewhat more upscale lodging is available at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, located about 5 miles from campus (campus can be accessed by bus or train). Their website contains maps and other useful information.
Please note that you are required to make your own hotel reservations (mention that you are attending the Center for Cosmological Physics, University of Chicago workshop when you make your reservations). The rooms will be allocated on the first come first serve basis. We urge you to make reservations as soon as possible - the deadline is July 1. After July 1, we may cancel some of the reserved rooms. For assistance please contact Helen Pates (e-mail: hpates@cfcp.uchicago.edu , phone: 773-702-7848)
You can fly to either O'Hare (ORD) or Midway (MDW) airports. The Midway airport is considerably closer than O'Hare and is generally more convenient. A taxi ride from O'Hare and Midway to campus should cost about $40-50 and $20-25, respectively. Omega Shuttle Service also offers transportation from Hyde Park to Chicago's Midway and O'Hare Airports. You can find fare and scheduling information as well as boarding locations on their website, http://www.omegashuttle.com/default.htm
