GROUND-BASED SUPERNOVA SURVEYS

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

A number of `second generation' ground-based Supernova surveys are either recently underway or soon to begin, while other established surveys are continuing. These different surveys have a variety of complementary drivers. The aim of this workshop is to gather together 20-30 key people involved in on-going and planned surveys to assess their goals, discuss results if they're available, and at least raise the issue of strategy and coordination. The main focus will be on the (eventual) cosmological applications of these surveys, including:

• Direct probes of dark energy
• Zero-point of the Hubble diagram
• Constraining SN Ia systematics
• Further exploration of correlators with peak Ia luminosity
• Prospects for Cosmology with SNe II

The overall goal will be to emerge with a better sense of what we expect to learn from these different efforts over the next several years, about both SNe properties and cosmology. We plan to keep the atmosphere informal, with ample time for discussions. Currently, three days are blocked out for the meeting; however, if the schedule permits, we will aim to keep it to two meeting days.

COST: There is no registration fee.

LOCATION: All sessions will be held on the campus of the University of Chicago.
