We are pleased to announce SnowCluster 2013, a workshop on physics of galaxy clusters, which will be held on March 24-29, 2013 in Snowbird, Utah.

Since the first SnowCluster in 2010, there has been a number of interesting developments in the cluster field, including the launch of major new instruments and missions such as Hershel, Planck, NuStar, LOFAR, ALMA and others. Astro-H is getting ready to fly and measure the ICM velocities. It is time to get together again and discuss the new data, as well as the continuing stream of high-quality results from Chandra, XMM, Suzaku, Fermi, SWIFT, GMRT, VLA and the SZ telescopes, and recent theoretical progress on various aspects of the cluster astrophysics.

An approximate list of topics that we hope to cover includes:
* SZ observations: individual clusters, samples
* X-ray masses and their uncertainties
* Gravitational lensing masses
* Mass scaling relations
* Nuisance parameters for precision cosmology

We are writing to announce the program Exploring TeV Scale New Physics with LHC Data to be held at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, during the period April 29 – July 26, 2013, and to alert you that applications are now being accepted. We also encourage you to inform others who you think might be interested in applying.

We coordinators will be assisted by scientific advisors Yuri Gershtein, Beate Heinemann, Aurelio Juste, and David Stuart. A summary and the latest information about the program can be found online. Note that the Application Deadline is June 15, 2012.

There will be an associated conference, LHC-The First Part of the Journey, to be held from July 8—12, 2013. (It is not necessary to be a program participant in order to attend the conference, but, because of space limitations, conference participation will be by invitation only.)

KITP programs differ from many conferences and workshops in that they create a situation where scientists learn from each other and actually do substantive research, often collaborating with other participants. To foster these interactions, KITP strongly encourages theorists to stay for as long as possible, with three weeks being the minimum stay for a regular participant. We understand, however, that bench scientists with laboratory responsibilitiesoften cannot manage long visits but can have a big impact even in a week, so we can be more flexible for them.

Some level of financial support will be available, the amount depending on the needs of the participants and availability of funds. Supplementary funds are available to help support families wishing to make extended visits. To apply, go to the aforementioned web page, and click on the Apply link. Late applications will be considered as budget and space permits. Due to space and financial constraints, however, we may not be able to accommodateeveryone who applies.

KITP provides office and computing facilities on-site at UC Santa Barbara and also provides help finding living accommodations. Actual commitments of office space and financial support can be made only by written formal invitations from the KITP Director, David Gross, regardless of any communications you may have had with us.

Dear Colleague,

we would like to inform you about an upcoming meeting on Exploring the Physics of Inflation that will take place in the northern coastal city of Santander (Spain) from June 24-27, 2013.

This meeting is very timely because the year 2013 has already started to be an exciting year full of new cosmological results based on the measurement and analysis of CMB temperature fluctuations,
polarization, and LSS data. The Planck satellite just provided its first cosmological information and released all-sky CMB maps with unprecedented quality. These new results, along with the information that is being produced by on-going and planned CMB and LSS experiments are and will continue to be a very important contribution to improving our knowledge on the inflationary period of the universe. This meeting will focus on the physics of inflation from an observational, theoretical, and instrumental perspective. Special emphasis will also be given to the results derived from the forthcoming polarization data.

This conference takes place in the context of the Spanish Consolider-Ingenio Project known as EPI: Exploring the Physics of Inflation. There will be a limited number of invited talks, in order to allow the majority of the time for contributed discussion. Limited financial support may be available for PhD students and young postdocs, covering accommodation in a shared double room. Priority will be given to those presenting an oral contribution or poster.

Galaxies are surrounded by extended halos of stars, gas and dark matter. The stars appear to be debris from accreted dwarfs. The gas flows both in and out, forming hydrostatic atmospheres in massive systems. The dark matter dominates the overall mass budget, providing the gravitational context for the growth and evolution of the central galaxy. Recent observations have shed light on all these components: resolved star studies and low surface brightness photometry on the stellar halo; UV absorption, X-ray emission, and stacked 21cm and SZ measurements on circumgalactic gas; and galaxy-galaxy lensing and dynamical studies based on a variety of tracers on dark matter halos. In our current paradigm for structure formation, the three kinds of halos interact strongly and play an important role in shaping the galaxies we see. This conference aims to bring together observers and theorists in the broad range of areas providing insight into the physical mechanisms governing these galaxy-halo connections. Topics will include gaseous, stellar and dark matter halos in our own and external galaxies; the impact of accretion and outflows on the structure and evolution of galaxies and their surroundings; new techniques for measuring the mass and structure of halos and their relation to the central galaxy; the co-evolution of baryonic and dark matter structures in the inner regions of halos; the links between halos and galaxy morphology and scaling relations.
Observational and theoretical perspectives will be combined to provide a comprehensive view of our current understanding with the aim of isolating the remaining challenges in this area of galaxy formation and evolution.

This is to announce the next of our continuing series of Santa Fe
Cosmology Summer workshops, to be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico from
July 1 to July 19, 2013. The venue is the campus of St. John's
College, a small liberal arts college that provides both a pleasant
ambiance and convenient access to Santa Fe.

The aim of the Santa Fe workshops is to bring together physicists and
astrophysicists with interests in structure formation, the cosmic
microwave background, and the early universe. Typically, a large
portion of the time is devoted to discussion, with formal or informal
talks as needed to introduce such discussion. Attendance is limited
to about 80 participants to encourage this informality. We also
encourage attendance by a number of graduate students and junior
researchers, so they can be exposed to forefront research and interact
with leaders in the field. We therefore ask you to bring this meeting
to the attention of exceptional students and postdocs.

There will be no registration fee and highly subsidized housing will
be provided (the precise cost estimates will be available soon, but
are likely to be $175/room/week, $100/week for students, including
meal tickets). Travel support will not be available.

Registration is open for the 41st SLAC Summer Institute, to be held at SLAC July 8-19, 2013. The Institute's topic is "Journeys Through the Frontiers: Planning for Future Facilities." Morning lectures will review the theoretical motivations and experimental techniques that will enable exciting discoveries along the cosmic, energy and intensity frontiers. The Institute will closely follow the 2013 "Snowmass" Community Summer Study and will serve as a means for young physicists to participate. In the afternoons, topical conference talks will alternate with discussion sessions, work on Snowmass projects, tours, and social events. to be held in Asilomar over the five-day period immediately preceding TAUP2013. The deadline

22nd Midwest Relativity Meeting / Compact Objects Meeting

The 22nd Midwest Relativity Meeting will be held Friday and Saturday, October 25 and 26, 2013 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and will be followed by a Compact Objects meeting on Sunday October 27. Astrophysical talks on compact objects in the Relativity Meeting will be scheduled for Saturday to give a natural overlap. Each participant in the meetings may present a talk of approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on the total number of talks, We intend the Midwest Relativity Meeting to cover a broad range of topics in gravitation physics, including classical and quantum gravity, numerical relativity, relativistic astrophysics, cosmology, gravitational waves and experimental gravity. The third day of science talks will focus on a wider range of topics relating to the astrophysics of compact objects: white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes; we encourage submissions of observational and theoretical talks by students, postdocs, and faculty.

As this is a regional meeting, many of the participants will be from the United States Midwest and Canada, but researchers and students from other areas are also welcome.
